Boxing Results: Richardson Hitchins Defeats Liam Paro

IBF light welterweight champion Liam Paro (25-1, 15 KOs) lost a 12-round split decision to Richardson Hitchins (19-0, 7 KOs) Saturday night at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente, San Juan, Puerto Rico.

In the first three rounds, Paro out-landed Hitchins. A right cross hit Hitchins in the fourth, driving him several steps to his left. In the fifth round, Hitchins drew blood from Paro’s nose.

In the seventh round’s final minute, Hitchins landed a solid right to Paro’s chin. In the eleventh round, Hitchins outworked Paro. It went back and forth in the twelfth and final round, with Hitchins having a slight edge.

Scores 117-111 for Paro, 116-112, and 116-112 for Hitchins.

WBO Latino super featherweight champion southpaw Henry ’Moncho’ Lebron (20-0, 10 KOs) defeated Christopher ‘Pitufo’ Diaz (29-5, 19 KOs) over ten rounds for the vacant IBF Latino title.

Throughout the first eight rounds, Lebron had his way, for the most part, against the aggressive Diaz. In the ninth round, a clash of heads caused a cut on Lebron’s left eyebrow. Diaz chased Lebron for the entire round in the tenth and final round.

The scores were 97-93, 97-93 and 96-94.

WBC Youth Silver and WBA No. American welterweight champion Jalil ‘Major’ Hackett (9-1, 7 KOs) lost a 10-round split decision to Jose ‘Chito’ Roman (14-1, 6 KOs).

In the first six rounds, Hackett was ahead, mostly backing. In the eighth round, Hackett, having had problems making weight, seems to be slowing down as Roman takes the round.

In the ninth round, Roman countered Hackett, who kept coming forward with swelling outside Hacket’s right eye. In the tenth and final round, Roman, who lost the first half of the fight, came back, taking the last three with swelling under his right eye at the end.

The scores were 96-94 for Roman, 96-94 for Hackett, and 96-94 for Roman. A draw would not have hurt.

Continental Americas lightweight champion Marc Castro (13-1, 8 KOs) lost a ten-round split decision to Agustin ‘Sugar’ Quintana (21-2-1, 13 KOs) in an upset.

It went back and forth in the first three rounds, with Castro having an edge. In the fourth and fifth rounds, Quintana came back, taking both rounds.

In the sixth and seventh rounds, Castro out-landed Quintana for the most part. In the eighth and ninth rounds, Quintana returned, taking the round.

In the tenth and final round, both swinging wildly, Castro had Quintana against the ropes for the most part.

The scores were 97-93, 97-93 for Quintana, and 96-94 for Castro.

WBA Continental Americas & WBC Silver champion Yankiel ‘El Doctorcito’ Rivera (7-0, 3 KOs) stopped NABF flyweight champion Angel ’Set if off’ Gonzalez (14-1, 7 KOs) by a fourth-round knockout. The contest was halted at 2:10 of the fourth round of a scheduled ten rounds.

In the fourth round, Rivera dropped Gonzalez with a combination to the chin for an 8-count from Referee Pabon. Seconds later, he hurt Gonzalez with a right on the chin and another on the back, and down he went for an 8-count. Referee Luis Pabon then waved it off.

In the opening bout on the card, WBA Continental Americas welterweight champion southpaw Stefanie ‘The Medicine’ Piniero (8-0, 2 KOs) defeated Kalinda Faria (2-3) by an eight-round unanimous decision.

In the first three rounds, Piniero had the edge. Pinero rocked Faria with a right hook to the chin in the fourth round at the halfway point.

In the seventh round, in the final seconds, Faria ran from Piniero to get to the bell. Faria was busted up in both eyes. In the eighth and final round, the taller southpaw Piniero continued dominating Faria.

The scores were 80-71, 80-71 and 80-71.

Light welterweight southpaw William ‘Willito’ Ortiz (7-0, 4 KOs) easily defeated Lionel Omar Colon (6-1, 3 KOs) by a six-round unanimous decision.

In the first round, both had their moments. In the second round, Ortiz rocked Colon on several occasions with lead lefts to the chin. In the fourth round, Ortiz continued outworking Colon, who didn’t seem to do much until the final seconds, possibly trying to steal a round.

In the fifth round, with a minute remaining, Ortiz landed a left on the chin, knocking Colon back several steps. Colon had an abrasion around his left eye at the end. In the sixth and final round, Ortiz continued to dominate Colon.

D Diamante gave The scores in Spanish, with all 60-54.

Bantamweight Juan ‘Juancito’ Zayas (11-0-1, 8 KOs) beat Geraldo ‘Rigondiaux’ Valdez (16-3, 11 KOs) by an eight-round unanimous decision.

In the first four rounds, Zayas took the lead. In the sixth round, Zayas suffered a cut in his right eyelid. In the eighth round, Zayas was warned for holding throughout the round.

The scores were 78-73, 78-73 and 77-74.
